Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea revolves around a sea witch named Wadanohara and her familiars Memoca, Dolpi, and Fukami, who return to the Sea Kingdom after hearing how it is at war with the Totsusa Kingdom. During the time Wadanohara spends trying to prevent the war, she is demanded by her ex-familiar Samekichi to leave the Blue Sea.

Though there are differences between the manga and game, the overall plot is the same.

Age Rating

The first volume and Omnibus Edition of Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea are rated 10 years and up on Amazon.

Chronology

No foreknowledge is required to read the Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea manga, though most people play the game before reading the manga. This is because the game contains characters and events not present in the manga.

Publication Status

The first half of the Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea manga is printed. It has been officially translated by publisher KADOKAWA into English and Chinese. Hard copies can be purchased on Amazon.com. A few chapters in Japanese are also available for free on Pixiv.net. The reason why certain characters do not appear in the manga is due to constraints put on the amount of characters that appear per the intermediary editorial production company's decision. [1]

However, while the Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea manga is completed, KADOKAWA did not print or translate the second half of the manga, also known as the Sea of Death (Shi no Umi-hen) arc, though the Japanese version of the second half can currently be read on Pixiv.net for free. Unofficial English fan translations have been created for it.

In May of 2023, Deep-Sea Prisoner was given back the rights to the manga from Pixiv. She will now be able to sell both manga volumes on her BOOTH store. However, she will have to redraw the first volume of the manga. [2]

As of the 24th of July, 2024, Deep-Sea Prisoner acquired the rights to the Sea of Death arc and is redrawing parts of it. She also has plans to draw more bonus scenes. [3] The Sea of Death arc will later be published as an e-book. Paperbacks will be taken as pre-orders. [3]

Chapter 0

Witchworldmanga

Wadanohara heading to meet the Great Witch

The prologue starts with Wadanohara arriving at the Witch World alongside her familiars and Chlomaki. Wadanohara is a bit nervous about meeting the Great Witch, overseer of the Witch World, but Chlomaki reassures Wadanohara that the Great Witch will be able to restore memories that Wadanohara apparently lost. Wadanohara then gets distracted by the moon, and reminiscences over her past with Samekichi. She wonders whether he is perhaps looking up at the moon at the same time and expresses her desire to return home in order to protect the Sea Kingdom. The prologue ends with the group heading towards Witch Castle to meet the Great Witch.

Chapter 1: The Witch of the Sea

Chapter one begins with a flashback showing dark shots of Wadanohara, Samekichi, and Wadanohara's ocarina. There are various lines of narration presumably from Wadanohara, pleading for someone not to leave and talking about not remembering something.

The next scene cuts to the present and shows Memoca waking Wadanohara up. Wadanohara and her familiars are traveling back to the Sea Kingdom on Wadanohara's boat after having visited the Witch World. Wadanohara wakes up and gets dressed, then proceeds to head onto the boat's deck and greet her familiars. She reminiscences about the peacefulness of the waves until her thoughts are suddenly interrupted by a loud popping noise. The noise is being caused by Memoca popping balloons in order to tease Dolpi. Trying to diffuse the situation, Wadanohara ends up slipping on a piece of rubber but is caught by Fukami who confiscates the needle and balloon from Memoca.

Wadanohara then spots the Sea Kingdom Gate. However, her thoughts are clouded by the absence of Samekichi. The chapter ends with Chlomaki trying to catch up to the boat for then-unexplained reasons.

Chlomaki and Lobco have a short back-and-forth over their travels. Chlomaki then calls Dolpi a shark while listing off Wadanohara's familiars, which upsets Dolpi a lot. The pitch-black witch seems unbothered by this and diverts her attention back to Wadanohara. She apologizes to her about their trip to the Witch World and the lack of results that came of it as Wadanohara still has not gotten her memories back. Chlomaki then says she will meet them later and flies off. Fukami, put off by the ocarina, proceeds to ask Wadanohara if the ocarina is still previous to her "even now," referring to Samekichi's supposed betrayal, because Samekichi gifted Wadanohara her ocarina. Wadanohara confirms that it is.

Wadanohara and her familiars finally arrive at the Sea Kingdom Gate but are confronted by Samekichi. Samekichi tells Wadanohara to immediately leave the ocean, and that she does not belong there.
