Tarako (たらこ) is an octopus and minor character in Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea. They are friendly with Wadanohara and her familiars.
Physical Description[]
Tarako possesses a very simple appearance. They are a small round red octopus.
Personality[]
According to an old Sunahama Log, Tarako is the only character in Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea under 100 years old. As one of the youngest denizens of the Blue Sea, they are often childish but friendly. They enjoy jazz and giving octokisses to their friends as a sign of friendship. They also like tight spaces, sleeping in the bin rather than on a bed, and hate scary dreams.
They are "technically an adult" yet occasionally wet the bed, even though they do not sleep on a bed most of the time.
Tarako refers to themselves with "boku", which is written in hiragana, making it more childish. [1]

Not much is known about Tarako's past.

Relationships[]
Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea Cast[]
Aom[]
Aom is Tarako's friend. In the manga adaptation, Aom smacked them in the head for unknown reasons, making them cry until they fell asleep. Despite this, they are later seen defending themselves together when the Sea of Death invades. Tarako is frequently seen paired up with Aom and Irena. When the Totsusa Kingdom arrived to attack, all three of them met up in Deepsea Town.
Irena[]
Irena is Tarako's friend and neighbor. When Totsusa Soldiers invaded the Sea Kingdom, Irena comforted Tarako as they started to cry out of fear. During a flashback sequence where Wadanohara gave Irena some apples she enjoyed, she mentioned Tarako liked them as well, meaning she had shared them with them. They are frequently seen paired with Aom. When the Totsusa Kingdom arrived to attack, all three of them met up in Deepsea Town.
In a bonus comic in the manga, Irena and Tarako, who she was holding in her arms, are shown grinning mischievously at Samekichi's consult over how close Wadanohara gets to him. According to Irena, Wadanohara only did this to him. Samekichi then hides himself in a hole of embarrassment.
Pulmo[]
Pulmo is Tarako's friend. In the manga, Wadanohara found Tarako snuggled inside Pulmo's skirt. Tarako had ended up there after being hit on the head by Aom, causing them to cry and eventually fall asleep. Pulmo, who had completely forgotten about Tarako, grabbed them and asked Wadanohara to heal them.
Wadanohara[]
Wadanohara is Tarako's friend. When she came back in the game, Tarako wanted to "octokiss" her, which she politely declined. They then asked her to come play with them again someday. During a flashback sequence, she went with Tarako to get treasure chests Tarako claimed to have seen, but it turned out they were empty. Tarako apologized to Wadanohara for not being able to give her a gift; Wadanohara did not mind it at all as the gesture enough made her happy.
Tarako enjoys Wadanohara's music and comes over to Wadanohara's home to listen to her play piano and doodle with the witch as well.
Samekichi[]
Samekichi is one of Tarako's friends. Tarako often mistakes his name on purpose, which Samekichi is annoyed by. They tease him over his love for Wadanohara multiple times. Samekichi's first kiss was with Tarako because of this, after they mocked him about not having a first kiss with her yet. In a bonus room video, Tarako also "octokisses" Samekichi as proof of friendship, which Samekichi found disgusting and begged them to stop. Despite this, the two are on decent terms with each other.
In Normal Ending 2, Tarako calls Samekichi by his real name, trying to get him out of his depressive state over the loss of Wadanohara.
Minero[]
Minero and Tarako are acquaintances. Tarako knows about Minero's love of treasure hunting.
Abilities[]
Skillset[]
- Doodling - In chapter 14 of the Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea manga, Tarako is seen to be skilled at doodling.

Trivia[]
- Though Tarako refers to themselves with "boku", other characters use the "-chan" honorific when addressing them, which is normally used for girls.
- Tarako has been called an おとこのこ ("otokonoko") in their biography. [1]
- The precise etymology of Tarako's name is unknown, although there are several possibilities.
- If one were to remove the hiragana character ら (ra) from Tarako's name, the resulting text would be Tako (たこ, tako). Tako is the Japanese word for "octopus."
- Tarako is also the name of a certain type of fish roe prevalent in Japanese cuisine. The kanji of Tarako (鱈子, Tarako) can be read and written in hiragana in the same way Tarako's name is.
- Tarako is often used as a mascot by Deep-Sea Prisoner. She said in an interview for the manga them and Syakesan were her favorite characters.
