This guide details when and how to use references (aka sources) on the Okegom Wiki. References are added to pages to indicate where information originates from. It is important to add references so that others can independently verify information on pages.

How to Add References

The Cite template is used to add references to pages. Below, there are tutorials for both the Visual and Source editor. (The visual editor is the default editor for new users).

Parameter Meanings

Template parameters

Parameter		Description	Type	Status
Url	url	Insert the link of the reference here. If this parameter is left blank, only the title will appear.	String	optional
Reference title	title	The title of the game/manga/post/article/page etc. If this parameter is left blank, it will say 'Untitled'.	String	optional
Author	author	The author of the source	String	optional
Translator	translator	The translator of the source.	String	optional
Publisher	publisher	The group or company that published the source. This parameter is left blank if it was published by an individual.	String	optional
Website	website	The website of the source, in case it is an online source.	String	optional
Publication date	date	The date of publication. If this parameter is left blank, it will say that the date is unknown.	String	optional
Access date	access date	The date that the source was accessed. This parameter is only used for online web sources.	String	optional
Archive	archive	A link to the archived webpage of the source. This parameter is only used for online web sources. Users can use archive.org/web to archive web pages. IMPORTANT: Livestream archives are not to be linked through the archive parameter, but rather through the stream nr parameter.	String	optional
Livestream number	stream nr	If a source is a livestream by Deep-Sea Prisoner, this parameter is to be defined as the livestream number. This will automatically add a link that leads to the wiki livestream archive.	String	optional
Deleted?	deleted	Write 'yes' if the original source in question is deleted. Leave this parameter empty if the original source is not deleted.	String	optional
Note	note	If there is anything noteworthy about the source in question, it is put in the note parameter. The note parameter is typically used to notify users of mistranslations in sources.	String	optional

How To Archive Web Pages

When linking to an online source (eg. a website or tweet) it is important to make an archive of the web page in case it is later deleted. Such a web page archive is also called a "snapshot."

Archive.org/web is used to make archives of web pages. Scroll down and enter the URL of the page you want to save under "Save Page Now" (see image below). It will take about a minute for the archive to be processed. Once it is done, a link to the archive will be generated (example: https://web.archive.org/web/20220621100534/https://okegom.fandom.com/wiki/Main_Page). The new archive link that has been generated is then added to the |archive parameter of the Cite template (See above sections).

Youtube links are typically not archived, because the video will not be playable in the archive. To archive Deep-Sea Prisoner's livestreams, the |archive parameter is left empty and instead the |stream nr parameter is filled in with the corresponding stream number. This will automatically add a link to the corresponding Funamusea Stream Information Archive.
