Mogeko (モゲコ) are the central antagonists of Mogeko Castle. They are perverted and violent creatures who chase after Yonaka Kurai during her time in the castle.
Physical Characteristics[]
Mogeko are small yellow creatures with feline-like characteristics. They have large ears and a curled tail. They are able to see by thinly opening their eyes. [2] Oftentimes, Mogeko are depicted with more menacing features. They appear to possess razor-sharp fangs and long tongues, as evident in one comic.
Behavior[]
Each Mogeko is slightly different; some are locked up by King Mogeko, on the grounds they are defective (Mogekos who do not follow the social norm of typical Mogekos). The majority of them are perverted, having countless books of pornographic content, have an unusual obsession for highschool girls, and lastly, have an obscenely obsession for prosciutto (to the point of creating religious connections around it). Though they are very lewd, they are in fact quite childish and rather pathetic, almost resembling spoiled brats. Even though most of them share similar interests, the Mogekos do not always get along; some go to the extent of murdering each other.
Although they are relentless in their attempts to catch Yonaka Kurai and bear overwhelming strength in numbers, they are actually quite weak individually and easy to slaughter. In Mogeko Castle, Yonaka has the option to take away prosciutto from Mogekos who have it; doing so will cause the Mogeko to start bawling.
Some Mogeko are shown to be rather suicidal, saying things such as, "Do we only live to die?" or "If I had known I'd be sad everyday, I wouldn't have wished to be born." On some occasions, they show little to no empathy toward their own kind, often leaving them to die in order to save themselves. Some Mogeko also appeared devout and religious to the teachings of Lord Prosciutto under Hasu's instruction. It is shown not all Mogeko desire Yonaka but still possess varying levels of indecency.
History[]
Not much is known about these creatures past other than they were created by King Mogeko, inhabit Mogeko Castle, and eventually appear in some other worlds, such as the Gray Garden and Blue Sea. Mogekos are also born from eggs and have a larvae form when young, as can be seen on Mogeko Castle's second floor.
If they are infected by a parasite named Blancfluff Mogeparasite they turn into Mofukos (a version of Mogeko with white fluffy fur) and die within a month.
Development[]
When Deep-Sea Prisoner launched her website funamusea.com in 2006, there were various artworks of cat-like 2channel ASCII art characters. These characters seemed to have been the inspiration for Mogeko. At the time, Mogeko became a sort of self-insert character for Deep-Sea Prisoner. However, they later became vermin and began to "multiply in number, becoming more beast-like creatures." [3]

Abilities[]
Natural Abilities[]
- Nigh-Absolute Immortality - Like most non-human characters in the Deep-Sea Universe, Mogekos cannot die from aging. [4] However, they are susceptible to at least one deadly parasite.
Trivia[]
- A common mistranslation of "moge" is that it means "to grope" in Japanese. However, it actually means to completely pluck or rip off, like a fruit, hair, or a part of an object or body. "-Ko" is a common ending suffix of a large variety of words such as girl, animal, and object names. [5]
- Previously on Deep-Sea Prisoner's website, Mogeko's character portrait was hidden in the character section. To access it, one would have to click on Nataka Kurokawa's portrait and click [← 戻] ("return") twice. However, this method was not always feasible, and oftentimes the portrait could only be accessed via a direct link or on the second character page.
- Near the end of the General Hashasky's Great Adventure teaser trailer, there are two costumed Mogekos who reference Wadanohara and Yosafire.
- Previously on Deep-Sea Prisoner's site, clicking on any age-restricted game would load a page for age verification. Choosing "いいえ" (NO) would lead to a flash game, where the user could use a stick to hit a Mogeko's backside for an infinite amount of times.
- An official shimeji for Mogeko used to be available for download on Deep-Sea Prisoner's website. [6]
- In the game files for Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea, there are sprites of a Mogeko with a mermaid's tail replacing the vehicle sprites for the ship, airship, and skiff normally coming with RPG Maker 2000 and 2003. Since these vehicles are not accessible during normal gameplay, these sprites go unused.
- This Mogeko was later used as a sea dweller in the Reboot.
- A Mogeko in a diving suit and life preserver can also be found in the game files of Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea, in both the original and Reboot.
- Beast Mogekos - the ones with the long tongues as can be seen in the DEEP KISS mini-comics - are Mogeko that also go for men, not just women. [7]
- In Funamushi Private Deep-Sea Academy, Mogeko teachers would never ban dating. [8]
- Mogeko meat is tender,[9] delicious, and said to be good for making prosciutto. [1]
- A Mogeko's gender is simply "Mogeko." However, when observed by a human, they have a structure similar to that of male animals. [1]
