— Victor Flankenstein, Seaside Dispatches 2

Victor Flankenstein (ヴィクター・フランケンシュタイン) is a main character in Seaside Dispatches 2. He was a mad scientist who created Crea Flankenstein and was close friends with Satanick.

Physical Description[]

Victor had black hair with white streaks tied in a ponytail. He wore a monocle, a lab coat over a gray dress shirt, and black pants. He also wore dark gray gloves and black dress shoes. Throughout Seaside Dispatches 2, Victor can be seen depicted in a suit jacket, tie, and vest over his dress shirt.

In Funamushi Private Deep-Sea Academy, Victor is seen wearing glasses. The only time he is shown wearing them is in this alternative universe. [2] Deep-Sea Prisoner further commented that his physical appearance in Funamushi Private Deep-Sea Academy is slightly different from his appearance in Seaside Dispatches 2 since it is set in a more dated time period. [2]

Personality[]

Victor's behavior is almost identical to that of Victor Frankenstein from Mary Shelly's novel Frankenstein. [3] As a child, Victor loved alchemy and even tried to summon a demon. [3] While deeply passionate about his work, Victor was not much of a cook, [3] though he had a particular fondness for tea. [4] He had a rather calm personality and kept to himself. The latter seems to have been caused by the loss of his family who he loved from the bottom of his heart. [5] He does not seem to take care of himself, which is the reason why Satanick worried about him.

In Funamushi Private Deep-Sea Academy, Victor is the infirmary teacher. [6] [2] If an uninjured student comes to the infirmary, Victor kicks them for being an outlooker. However, if there are no other people around, Victor might be able to deal with them. Deep-Sea Prisoner asks fans to leave what method he would use up to their imagination. [2]

Background[]

Victor lived in a human realm in the 1800s time period. [7] At one point in time, he had planned to create an artificial human being. It was at this time that Victor met Satanick, thinking he was a hallucination. It was thanks to meeting Satanick that Victor abandoned the idea of creating artificial beings. [8] He decided to return to his hometown to take care of his family, halting his immoral work. [8] It was during this time he married his wife Elizabeth and had two daughters with her. [8] His wife and daughters later died in an accident, leaving Victor alone and depressed. Following the deaths of Elizabeth and his daughters, Victor's father died as well. A friend of his, whose name was Clerval, tried to support Victor. However, unable to pick himself up, Victor decided to create a new girl by using the bodies of his two deceased daughters. This is how Crea Flankenstein came to be. Later, Satanick proposed to grant Victor immortality and invite him to Ne-no-Kuni, but Victor refused on the grounds of not wanting to be immortal. Victor was frail to begin with, but after the accident, he stopped thinking of himself so his health deteriorated. [3] Not too long after, Victor succumbed to an unknown illness and passed away. It is unknown at what age Victor died, but he "had not lived that long." [7]

Relationships[]

Relatives[]

Crea Flankenstein[]

Crea is Victor's creation. He created her using the bodies of his two deceased daughters, yet he does not have her call him dad as he feels he "does not deserve it." From what can be seen of their interactions, the two got along well. While he was alive, he taught her a lot. [9] However, Victor blamed himself for Crea's limited range of emotions, having never laughed or cried, not knowing joy or sorrow. Unbeknownst to Victor, Crea cried for the first time ever after his death.

Elizabeth[]

Elizabeth was Victor's wife. She passed away during a car accident, leaving him devastated. He loved her from the bottom of his heart. [5] More details around their relationship will be revealed in Seaside Dispatches 2.5. [5]

Unnamed Daughters[]

Victor had two daughters with his wife Elizabeth. They passed away during a car accident, leaving him devastated. He loved them from the bottom of his heart. [5] More details around their relationship will be revealed in Seaside Dispatches 2.5. [5]

Satanick[]

Stnkvctrfirstmeeting

Satanick and Victor's first meeting

Satanick was a close friend of Victor when he was alive. Satanick had taken an interest in Victor and thus visited him on a regular basis. Victor was skeptical of the devil at first, but they eventually grew close to the point where Satanick started to harbor deep romantic feelings for him. These feelings, however, stayed unrequited.

When Victor fell ill, Satanick tried to convince him to come to his world Ne-no-Kuni, offering him his hand and a bouquet of twelve roses, customary to give someone when proposing to them. [10] With the words spoken and the number of roses offered, Satanick gave a sincere confession. [4] Satanick told Victor he could grant him immortality so they could be together forever. However, Victor is heterosexual, and homosexuality was not recognized by human values during that time period. [4] He was unaware Satanick's words were a proposal [4] or that Satanick felt this way about him. [8] Victor refused, saying he could not imagine a life that would never end. This led Satanick into deep despair. He secretly tried to grant immortality to Victor anyway, but Victor caught him and was enraged at this. Victor's health gradually began to deteriorate. During this time, Satanick would prepare him meals such as rice porridge (お粥) and nutritious stews. [3] He stayed by Victor's side, watching him wither away until his death. Right before his passing, Victor made Satanick promise to take Crea Flankenstein to his world, which Satanick did.

Sadstnk

Satanick thinking about Victor.

The death of Victor left a permanent scar on Satanick in the form of trauma. For instance, in Distorted Love 2, Satanick is seen reminiscing about Victor while wrestling with his unrequited feelings for Ivlis. Satanick's pain is also compounded by the fact that Victor Flankenstein was heterosexual and homosexuality was not tolerated at the time. The situation is described by Deep-Sea Prisoner to have a "melancholic beauty." [8] When asked if Satanick still thinks about Victor, Deep-Sea Prisoner stated, "It is up to one's imagination." [11]

Deep-Sea Prisoner responded to a question during a livestream in which it was stated one of the reasons Satanick had not done anything terrible to Victor was because he was human. Demons and devils are much tougher than humans, and conversely, humans are much more fragile than they are. [12] Satanick initially thought of being intimate with Victor. However, after seeing him slowly weaken, Satanick no longer wanted to do so. Instead, Satanick would have wanted to give Victor a hug. [13] If Victor were to touch Satanick's horns, Satanick might feel very happy. He would allow and like for Victor to touch his horns, but he probably would not do so. [14]

In Funamushi Private Deep-Sea Academy, Victor is the infirmary teacher. [6] [2] Satanick would frequently go to the infirmary pretending to be sick just to see Victor, who would get fed up and ask, "Again?" each time. It has been confirmed Satanick had a one-sided crush for Victor in this AU as well. [2]

Fumus[]

Fumus and Victor are indirect acquaintances, Victor's world being one of Fumus' "gardens." [15] Fumus held no regard for Victor's life despite them never meeting. [16]

Clerval[]

Clerval was Victor's close friend. [8] Between his consuming guilt to protect his family and being aware of his impending death, Victor said his farewell and never saw him again. [8]

Other Characters[]

Envi[]

Envi is extremely jealous of Victor Flankenstein. [17] Things would have been difficult if they ever met. [17]

Abilities[]

Skillset[]

  • Biology - Victor displayed tremendous knowledge about the field of biology.
  • Entity Creation - He had learnt the ability to create new life out of pre-existing bodies.

Trivia[]

  • Victor Flankenstein is based off of Victor Frankenstein from Mary Shelly's novel Frankenstein. Victor's deceased wife is also based off of Elizabeth Lavenza, wife of the original Victor Frankenstein.
  • Victor's character portrait only has him listed on a first name basis; however, in Seaside Dispatches 2, his full name is used. The character site previously mentioned him by his full name, though this was changed due to unknown reasons.
  • When asked if Victor would become a ghost, Deep-Sea Prisoner mentioned he did not; if he had, Satanick would be able to see him. [7]
  • In Deep-Sea Prisoner's early design process, Victor was a mad scientist who had nothing on his mind but his insane experiments. However, as the details of his character were worked on, he became a scientist who engages in inhumane acts out of grief. [18]
    • Victor's character portrait features him with a wicked smile. This is because Deep-Sea Prisoner initially drew him according to Victor Frankenstein's depiction in the Frankenstein movie. She then read the original novel and established the character he is now. [8]
  • If Victor had followed his original plan of creating an artificial human being, he would have followed the same path as Victor from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. [8]
  • Victor's genderbend's name is Victoria. [19]
  • He is often depicted with Tartarian aster flowers as seen in an illustration. This flower symbolizes "reminiscence," "I won't forget you," and "I think of someone far away" in Hanakotoba, the Japanese form for the language of flowers. [20]
  • Victor is one of only 16 characters to wear prescription glasses.
